Towards Emancipation? is a crowdsourced encyclopedia created in 2018 by Dr. Karen Hagemann and her students at UNC-Chapel Hill. It serves as a guide to the modern European Women’s Movement from 1780-1980, focusing on Germany, France, and Great Britain. It utilizes a variety of sources to contextualize the social, economic, and cultural history of women’s emancipation. The encyclopedia portion provides entries on individuals, organizations, events and laws related to the women’s movement. There are dozens of thematic and biographic entries, with subcategories broken down by time period and geography. It also includes photographs, art, and films related to gender history.
